Back in February, when we broke the news to our boys that we were leaving Illinois and moving to Oklahoma, we had a conversation about Roaring River State Park. They were heartbroken at the news of having to leave friends, church, school and 'our' town. So one thing Derek pointed out to them immediately, was that moving meant we would live less than three hours from Roaring River. We visited last year in between Independence Day in Iowa and Derek's cousin Megan's wedding in Arkansas. Last summer we had several conversations wondering "how we could make it back some time", and "too bad it was so far away". Annnnnnd... here we are! Haha. So we picked a weekend and planned a camping trip to Roaring River! Which takes a lot of prep...
And a surprising amount of food.
We left after Derek got off work (a little early) on a Friday, arrived to set up camp.
Owen got right to finding his bedding. And his binkies.
He loved being inside the tent!
We brought air mattresses, but I still don't think we're in the 'glamping' category. haha.
Once we were all set up...
The boys sorted out lures and rigged up their poles for the next morning.
We were too late in the day to buy trout stamps for that night, so we just went to scope out fishing spots.
Yep, there are fish in there! The water is so clear you can see them all.
There are also all sorts of little creatures. Miles found several right away.
We pretty much had to drag them away to move on...
This spot was within walking distance from our campsite though. Last year we stayed a few minutes away by car, so these guys were excited about being right by the river!
Next up was dinner, then s'mores by the fire.
Then heading to bed to get ready for some early morning trout fishing!
