The Peoria Public School hosts a Parent University every month. They're completely free and are for the entire family. They're hosted at different locations every month, the first one we participated in was at Wildlife Prairie Park. It started with dinner catered by HyVee, then we toured the park which included a nature walk. Miles wanted his photo as a monarch butterfly!
We had to choose which half of the animal trail we'd like to see, but then headed out on the trail.
We got to see the big birds of prey.
...eagles up close!
Next, the otters.
These two were playful and ran around a lot. Owen was thrilled when they rolled around on the grass right where he was standing.
We saw the bear too. She was a small black bear, but I'm still not sure why Owen kept calling her a raccoon! 😂
Next we went through the reptile building.
As you can imagine, there were enough creepy, crawly creatures to make my boys smile from ear to ear.
Lizard, frogs and snakes.
Next, we went to an animal show. There were owls tethered to the tables until it was their turn to show off.
Part of the show were a huge snapping turtle, a skunk and....
A snake!
We were told to be silent since the owls can hear your heartbeat and don't like all the noise. So Derek and I ended up taking turns keeping Owen outside since he's not great at being silent. He got to play with the goats.
He made friends with this one.
Especially when he was allowed to feed it.
He also tried to talk to the ducks.
By the time the animal show was over it was getting too dark for photos. We headed into the educational sessions before we headed home for the night. We enjoyed our evening, and an extra bonus: Any students that attended the Parent University got a pass to go to school uniform free the next day.
