AWANA Club has ended for the year.
My boys really enjoy going each Wednesday and putting in the work to finish their books and memorizing their verses. Every year there have been fun theme weeks, but this year, there were quite a few more that we participated in. So lets do a quick look back before we get onto the closing program.
The first theme was Spirit Night -"Wear your school t-shirt or favorite high-school/college shirt". I was pretty tempted to take a sharpie to some tee's and write, "Homeskooled" all crazy, but I let the boys just wear their Shocker shirts at their request. :) But somehow didn't get a photo.
The Hayrack Ride and Hotdog Roast came next.
Then World Missions Night -"Dress in something from another culture".
We dug out soccer jerseys that came from Uncle Jonathan (Ethan) from Mexico for this night. Cooper's was a bit small, but he didn't seem to mind. Ha.
For World Series Night, the boys rocked their Kansas City Royal attire, of course! There are a lot of Cubs and Cardinal fans around here.... later winning the World Series was a fun celebration for us.
Next we enjoyed the Fall Carnival, then were out of town for Paper Airplane Night - "Make and decorate a paper airplane to bring to club". But were back for the Dress Like Christmas Night - "Wear clothes that remind you of Christmas". Owen got in on the fun too! And Miles actually missed this night because he was sick. We took a photo before Cooper left in his Santa hat though.
We celebrated Jesus Birthday with the Ring of Lights.
Then after we rang in the New Year, the next theme was Island Night. For this, we pulled out Hawaiian outfits Aunt Anna had brought for some of the kids when she lived in Hawaii. The boys accessorized with the lei's Aunt Anna greeted them with when we arrived in Hawaii to visit her.
Next up, Neon Glow Stick Night - "Dress in black and play games with glowsticks during game time". The boys had a blast during games that night!
Then, Twin Night. Cooper and Miles dressed themselves for this theme. Right down to matching socks!
We stayed home sick on Inside Out Night - with two bummed boys.
We had a little trouble coming up with anything for Dots & Stripes Night - "Wear colorful clothes with dots & stripes and learn about a colorful coat". So they went to club looking rather hilarious.
The Grand Prix came next on the calendar! What a fun time we had that day.
We were out of town for Shamrock Night - "Wear something green".
And I didn't get a photo of Arctic Night - "Dress in cold-weather gear and play snowball games during game time". Maybe because that's just how you dress for spring in Central Illinois. :-/
We had a lot of fun with Pirate Night - "Dress as a private and hear about an amazing shipwreck during cousin time".
I ordered a pack of eyepatches from Amazon because I couldn't find a good deal in a store. So we shared the ten we didn't need with some friends!
We also really enjoyed When I Grow Up Night - "Dress like what you want to be when you grow up". Cooper chose to dress as a professional angler/tournament fishermen.
Miles went as a veterinarian.
The last theme was Dress Like a Mess Night - "Be a fashion disaster".
I gave a few suggestions, then let the boys go for it. I did have to talk Cooper into the suspenders, but Miles came up with mismatched shoes and three (clip-on) neckties all on his own.
Up next, closing program!
