The big day had finally come! It was a day we'd been counting down to for two reasons: 1) The AWANA Grand Prix and 2) We were headed to Wichita for spring break immediately following the race! (We actually delayed our departure for three days to stay for this!)
We arrived, checked in, had our cars inspected and placed them in the "garage". Where, you guessed it, no one is allowed to touch them.
The boys had brought a little of their own money to spend at the concession stand and they decided to do that while they waited for the race to begin.
Meanwhile, Owen tried to tear down the race flags.
Cooper and Miles both won their first heat, which meant next they raced each other!
That was pretty fun...
The announcer really played it up!
Miles' car won! His ended up being pretty fast, he ended up in the finals!
He got his car lined up...
And raced down to the finish line!
(Cooper is a good sport, seen on the right cheering on his brother!)
They're off!
It was SO close, but Miles' came in second.
Which was proved to be true when he won the second bracket to take 2nd place overall! Yes, Cooper and Miles met again in this bracket and again, Miles won.
Owen wasn't nearly as excited as the rest of us where...
It was fun for Miles to get a trophy at his very first race!
And.... Cooper won first place for design! He was thrilled!
So both of our racers came home with a trophy!
All the kids did a great job and were good sports.
Everyone gets a ribbon for participation.
With the race complete and trophies in hand, we loaded up and hit the road!
Next stop (ha ha!) Wichita!
