A couple days after Derek returned from his Texas hunting trip, we drove to Chicago for the day. My sister, Anna, was joining her husband, Jared, who was there for work. Anna and Jared lived in Chicago years ago, before moving to Hawaii and now living in California. We all met up at Anna's (our) friend Jess's place to start out.
While there, Uncle Jared roughed up the boys a little.
When he was done, we headed down to wait for the bus.
Jess is great at taking pictures, I didn't even have to ask. I love her! :)
And Uncle Jared only had to tell Miles "don't touch that gooey stuff" once during our ride. :-/
First stop of the day, the Lego Store!
Jess would have listened to the boys talk about Legos all day I think.
Miles met an Iron Man made entirely out of Legos.
While Cooper made his own friends.
We browsed a little.
And played a little.
Then headed out for a walk. Cooper was amazed at the size of the buildings.
It was just foggy enough that we couldn't see the top of some of them.
We walked to lunch...
Where Miles decided he really likes Chicago style pizza.
Mmmm... me too!
We had met up with Uncle Mark, Aunt Julie and Alyssa (it was her Birthday!) before lunch. They live in Indiana and drove over for the day too. We all headed to the subway.
It was a crowded ride, but the boys still though it was great.
They enjoyed all sorts of rides, including escalators.
We were headed to Macy's where Alyssa did some birthday shopping.
It was a big Macy's!
Beautifully decorated for Christmas. All eight floors of it!
While the girls shopped the shoe department, Derek snoozed on the sofa. Crazy guy had pulled an all nighter processing the meat of two wild hogs and a white tail deer.
The boys didn't need a nap though, so Aunt Anna walked them over to see the HUGE Christmas Tree in the middle of Macy's.
I caught up with her at the fountain where she was letting the boys toss her money in.
We found the rest of our group in the furniture section. Derek had been snoozing again...
And we made ourselves right at home for a while.
And the boys took their turn roughing up Uncle Jared.
It worked as a great pseudo living room to spend some time.
We soon headed out again and walked down the Christmas lit streets... so pretty!
Miles fell asleep en route to our next destination.
Lincoln Park Zoo!
It was all lit up and so fun to walk through.
Even with the crowds of other people.
We saw a few animals too.
Although it was already past bedtime for most of them and they were sleeping.
It was a great day to end and great day!
...then we drove home and were in bed around 1am. Whew.
