Grandpa Don

Derek's Grandpa Don, his Dad's Dad, was diagnosed with lung cancer less than a year ago.  Even after chemotherapy and treatment, he had cancer all over his body.  He passed away on November 2nd.

Derek and a couple of his siblings made a quick trip to Iowa to see him on November 1st, knowing he wasn't doing well, but not realizing he would be gone quite so soon after.

Grandpa loved to fish.  He escaped to the larger or even great lakes as often as he could.  And wintered in Texas and fished the gulf during the months he wasn't farming.

Grandpa loved a fish fry!

He also loved his family.  Though not an overly sentimental or emotional man, he was always genuinely interested in our lives and what we were up to. Here Cooper had just stolen the toothpick right out of his mouth! He enjoyed time with his great grandkids.

We all looked forward to trips to the farm to visit him and
G'ma Nee Nee (Neva) who passed away four years ago.

And the kids loved him... as seen by Owen's big smile for Great Grandpa.

This photo is from July when we were all there for Independence Day.  It was the last time some of us got to visit with him and enjoy his humor.  He'll be missed so much and we appreciate your prayers for our family.💙
