It might not surprise you to know that Miles has begged for pet most of his life. ha. It might surprise you that Derek talked me into letting him get one. One Saturday morning Derek took Miles on a short road trip...
To a truck stop that was a chosen meeting place to meet Greg Rice, a spider breeder we met at the Tulsa Reptile Show last fall. Miles has his own money and waited anxiously for Greg to arrive.
He finally did and the transaction was made. Miles purchased a baby tarantula! Some day when we have time, Greg invited us to go to his home in the Oklahoma City area to meet all his spiders and check out his set up. Oh boy. They didn't even plan to twin, but their matching outfits made me laugh when I saw this photo. :)
Intentionally having a spider in the house feels like I've reached a whole new level of #BoyMom, but just look at that boy's face. He's so excited!

This little creature has yet to be named, since Miles wants to wait until we know the gender. It has to grow a little bigger, and then it's possible to determine the gender by looking at the molt. It has molted once now, and was surprisingly bigger afterword! But the molt was still so tiny, Derek was unable to tell if we have another boy around, or a female. If it's a female, Greg says it may live long enough that Miles will be taking it to college with him. So... welcome to the family?! haha.
