We made the hour and a half drive to White Sands National Monument in New Mexico.
First stop was the visitor center.
Where we watched a short film about what creates the natural white sand dunes.
Then we drove out to the dunes.
It was amazing! It's such an interesting and unique place.
The kids wasted no time grabbing the sleds and heading to the top of the nearest dune.
And the sledding began!
And some creature catching, of course. :)
Even a few photo ops.
We spent time sledding, then ate our picnic lunch.
After lunch, we went to to some exploring a little farther away.
The kids just like to run up and down the hills.
Or roll down them!
Owen loved getting to the top then sliding down on his belly. The sand is super fine, you can imagine that a lot of it went back with us. Ha.
We might have stayed out a little longer than we should have...
We were enjoying it so much! But even with two sunscreen applications, some of us were a little burnt.

So worth it!
I didn't find a great informational video on YouTube, but there is a lot of info out there about how the dunes are formed and how much space it take up. A LOT.
We loved it and Owen, w ho didn't want to leave, is still asking to go back!
