Project: Christmas Cookies 2018

If Owen knows I'm baking, he comes running to help.  He helped me start the process of this year's Christmas Cookies!

I apologize in advance for the ridiculous amount of photos in this post, but it was a four day project.  And you know how many photos I take in four days. :)

The first time I walked into this house and saw that kitchen island,
THIS, is what my mind's eye saw. 💙💙💙

We don't take this project lightly around here.  All hands on deck for all the fun!

And fun they had...  they played with the leftover scraps for quite a while.
(Owen's tongue! 😂)

Pretty sure Owen thought it was a big play doh party.

Only with flour.  Flour everywhere.

Owen stuck with me through baking another baking while the big boys were at school.

He actually started to impress me with his rolling and cookie cutter skills!

A bit thick, but he's on the right track.

The night we got the cookie cutters out, he kept saying Benjerman...  I was so confused at first, then we all laughed so hard when we figured out what he was trying to say!

I hope we always call the Gingerbread Man a "Benjerman".

Eventually, we got around to making frosting (the most frustrating part to me! The consistency is hard!) and decorating.

Owen chose these sprinkles at the store.

And I think he ate two for every one he put on a cookie!

But again, his skills impressed me.

And these guys acted like old pros!

Derek even joined in.

Only he thinks it's funny to take the cookies and decide it's shape is something different than intended.  He turned a gift into a worm infested apple.

Round one complete!

Time for a taste test.

We tried two different cookie recipes this year.  My Mom's recipe tastes better, but the new recipe holds the shapes better.  We will have to continue our research.  And taste testing.

Miles stayed up late the next night to help me wrap up this project!

And snuck in a little you know... taste testing!

This was a new cookie cutter I'd found on clearance after last Christmas.
We all decided it's a favorite.

And, or course, the hippo to go along with a favorite Christmas song.

We also got a deer in the clearance pack.
(This one was decorated MANY ways!)

Miles learned the swirl...

We packaged up cookies in containers to deliver to neighbors.

I didn't even realize it until the boys pointed out that our new cookies matched the containers I'd purchased weeks before!
