Good Night, Roaring River 2018

Some family members had already been experiencing symptoms of a summer cold virus when we left for Roaring River.  So we were prepared with tissues, meds and OJ when all five of us were suffering the illness the second morning.

Not going to lie: It did dampen the fun a little. There were tissues stuffed in pockets and a few impromptu nap sessions, usually around lunchtime.  But that didn't stop the fishing.

Just like last year, Owen didn't catch any trout himself.

And he gets bored the quickest, so Derek took him to the playground near this fishing spot.

We also have a video Owen going down the slide last year: https://youtu.be/DY__XNmtJyc

This allowed me to do a little fishing.  Spoiler alert: Didn't get one.

Derek came back to change all our lures and see if we could attract the trout's attention.

Owen likes to hang with Daddy.

Or Mommy.

Speaking of hanging...  he likes to hang on my ankles.

Ummmm...  there are all sorts of reasons I didn't catch a fish.  haha.

There are mapped out sections of the river that are designated for types of fishing. i.e. Rod & Reel, Wading, Fly Fishing...   We knew we'd be near the "Fly Only" areas, and Miles didn't own a fly rod, so we grabbed him a $3 bamboo rod at Walmart.  Derek wasn't sure what to expect, but what do you know?  It snagged one of the best fish of the weekend!

You can hear Miles say, "It's a beauty.".  :)

He was pretty proud of this one.

It was a beauty!
And by beauty, I also mean delicious. Ha.

Apparently satisfied with that catch, Miles went back to his first love:
searching the rocks for tiny creatures.

He always seems to find something!

We grabbed a snack and wrapped up that evening's fishing.

Because we'd heard there was going to be a reptile show at the amphitheater!

Which did not disappoint... along with a lot of fun information about Missouri snakes and how to determine if they're venomous, there were real live snakes.

And everyone got to touch one of them.

With the instructed two fingers.

Then my boys cornered the poor park employee with a million questions about our backyard snakes while scrolling through photos on my phone to show him!  He was so nice about it and tried to answer all their snake related questions.

Goodnight!
