On April 15th, we got heartbreaking news that my sweet sister-in-law, Candice's, Mom had passed away. She had cancer, but had been doing fairly well, even garage sale shopping with Candice, and babysitting her girls just days before she died. So her turn for the worse was a bit shocking and happened fast.
We'd known Peggy for a long time since Candice's parents started the homeschool sports program that Derek and I participated in. She has six kids and loved her grand babies wonderfully.
Derek was planning to drive to Oklahoma for our home inspection that Thursday, so when we found out the funeral was on Wednesday, we decided to take the whole family on a road trip and be there. Which meant a stop at the storage unit to get funeral clothes.
...Derek is a great guy. 😍 It didn't take long to find my black dress, but I'm thankful he was willing to search. We grabbed what we needed, picked the big boys up after school and hit the road.
We made it to Derek's parent's house in Wichita around 2am and got some sleep. Then went to my parents house where Owen played with Parker.
And the boys poked around in Papa's fish pond.
We headed to the funeral, a beautiful service celebrating Peggy's life.
Even under such sad circumstances, it's always nice to see cousins.
The big boys entertained the little girls while we waited to go to the dinner.
We all went back to Mom's after and they were able to play together.
Owen spent some time with Papa and a top.
That night was the second of two Bowhunter shows featuring Derek's Texas hunt. So we got to watch that with his parents.
Owen got a piano lesson from soon-to-be Uncle Kaulin.
The boys camped out on air mattresses in G'ma Debbie's living room... they crashed quickly.
