Donavan Park & Observatory

One Saturday night, we headed to a nearby park.  It used to be a golf course and has lot of running space.  It also has a couple small ponds.  Miles was "about to catch a frog" and ignored my warning of getting too close.  He thought he was going down in quick sand before Cooper pulled him out of the mud.  His shoe was recovered from the mud shortly after.

We played with our football, frisbee and boomerang.

And Owen chased birds a LOT.

This park also has the Northmoore Observatory in the middle of it.

So once it started to get a little dark, we headed over to check it out.

We read and took in some information on the main level.

Then climbed the stairs to the tower.

The observatory is run by the Peoria Astronomical Society, so there are member of the astronomy club there to help out.  Cooper took a look...

Then Miles, only wearing one shoe.   We all looked, and we could see Jupiter that night!!

Derek tried to help Owen.  He looked but couldn't see, so Derek tried to help him close one eye. He closed them both! 😂😂😂  No one was injured in the process, I promise! ha ha.

After we all took our turn, visited a little, asked questions, looked around....

We headed back across the park toward home.

The observatory is free and open every cloudless Saturday evening May-October.  (Donations are accepted.)  We'll go back!!
