Our church held what we called "Brown Bag Fridays" all summer. Moms and kids gathered at area parks to play and eat a picnic lunch on Fridays. We met at a set rotation of parks in different areas of town.
It was a good excuse to get us to the park pretty often this summer.
And to parks we don't usually make the trip to.
It was fun to check out each park's playground.
To spend time playing with each other...
And with friends.
Then around lunchtime, to pull out the lunch we'd packed and eat with everyone.
As the parks rotated, so did the people who could make it.
We made it to more than half of the scheduled dates, so it was fun to see different friends.
It probably doesn't surprise you to know that Miles found plenty of bugs. One week it was a nest of baby praying mantis!
Owen found all the different park equipment pretty quick.
Speaking of quick.... he gets from one place to another before I know where he went!
Thankfully there are a lot of helping friends around. The preteens are great at hanging with Owen.
My big boys are great helpers too.
I'm not always sure where Miles is either though!
Until lunch, then they all come running.
One of the parks had a slight trickle of water running through it.
Miles spent the entire time searching it for creatures.
He chased a few frogs, but only caught a grasshopper.
The next time we went to that park, they were more prepared and took nets! The water gets deeper near a bridge back in the trees and they actually caught a few minnows. And as they always are, were disappointed when I wouldn't let them bring them home.
One week toward the end of the summer, we were under a heat advisory. So we showed up with water guns, ready to play!
The water helped cool the kids, and the breeze made the morning bearable.
They stayed cool and had fun.
And one of the last weeks, we needed sweatshirts to stay warm during a cool snap!
Summer is strange. And fun.
I might be missing summer a bit already.
