Derek's Birthday

The day after Owen's birthday, he had a cupcake for breakfast (well, the frosting anyway!).  I figure it can't be much worse than offering a kid a donut, right?! :)  It was also appropriate for continual celebrations...since it was Derek's birthday!! 

So I set out to make Derek's favorite birthday cake.  When he requested this cake for the eight year in a row, he said, "You know you're going to making that cake every year until one of us dies.". 😂

While he was napping, Owen's big bros were slip-n-sliding.  So he went out for a while when he woke up.  He snacked on a cupcake, so I just took his clothes off of him. 

He asked me to take his diaper off too!!  Nope, sorry. 

We finished up Derek's cake before he got home from work.

And realized this is the first year his cake will require ALL of the candles from two packages.

When Derek got home, we ate dinner and he opened gifts. (We got him shoes, they didn't fit.)

But Miles was SO happy about this card he picked out all by himself.  He laughed so hard when Derek opened it.

Then we set out to put all those candles in the cake!

All hands on deck for this project. 

Mission accomplished!

So it was time to sing...

Once we turned off all the smoke alarms, just kidding, we cut the cake and ate.

Though we didn't make much of a dent.

It was a great evening celebrating Derek!!
