Basketball Boy

Cooper has been counting down the days until his first basketball practice and was so excited when it finally arrived...on a Saturday morning...at 8am.  The night before he told me he wished he could "just go right now instead of go to sleep".  I loved every second of it, because, I was actually pretty excited myself.  :)

It wasn't hard to get him up and going early.
We got to the gym and he started shooting around with the other kids.

After a few minutes of 'warm ups'...

They called all the kids to the middle and introduced them to their coaches, talked about rules, expectations etc.   This league is though a Christian organization and they have a short devotion and a memory verse every week too.

Miles came prepared for all the fun...
with an iPod.

Next, all the kids got a ball and stood in line.

And did some ball handling.

Then moved to a different area in another line.
Where Cooper joked around with a teammate.

But was ready when it was his turn to dribble up the floor and back.

And then listen to instructions and do another drill. The boy to Cooper's right (your left) is Parker, who played on Cooper's soccer team too.

By this time, Miles had run the battery down on the iPod and switched to Daddy's phone.

But before I knew it, practice was over.

They'll have several practices that cover just fundamentals before they start scrimmaging with the other teams.  I'm probably way more excited about a five year old starting basketball than is necessary, but unlike when Coop played soccer... I know (and LOVE) this game!
