Saturday, September 1st... Mom's Birthday! We tried to keep the fact that we were planning a small party a secret from Mom, but I'm pretty sure she knew something was up. Haha. Us girls spent the morning prepping some food. In trying to keep some Trim Healthy Mama (low carb, sugar free) options available, I made a chocolate cake with raspberry filling. And, because we were busy, this is the only photo I took of food prep. :)
We sent Mom off to get her scheduled massage and then furiously started setting up the backyard for the festivities.
Soon, it was all set up and ready.
My sister, Angie, was the mastermind behind all this and did a fantastic job!
Along with artichoke dip, and some kid friendly mini corndogs and pigs in a blanket.
Once we got the kids situated with their meal...
It was time to enjoy ours! Grilled salmon, roasted veggies, strawberry spinach salad...

And food always tastes better outside. :)
Mmmm.
We wrapped up dinner.
Played some yard games.

Then pulled out the cake.
The real cake, made by my high school friend at Panda Cakes.
(Check her out if you're in the Wichita area!)
Happy Birthday, Mom!
After photos, we decided to head into the lower level "apartment" to sing and cut the cake.

Where all the great grandparents were enjoying their meal since it was a big hot outside that night.
They had a great view of the party from the air conditioning. :)
We served them cake, then took ours back out to the yard.
The kids also did s'mores to round things off.
Since the lights made the atmosphere even more fun as it got dark.
(Even if maybe not so great for photos. ha)
A fun and special way for all of us to celebrate a wonderful woman, our Mom!
