Our Friday nights are typically reserved for Life Group. On this Friday night, we weren't having our regular study time, instead we were all meeting at Schmied Lake to do some fishing. This is our friend, and fellow Life Grouper, Jess's, parent's house. You might also remember it from the great iPhone swim of 2013.
We were a tiny bit disappointed when we arrived and it started sprinkling just a bit. Cooper, not to be deterred from the task at hand, ran down to the water and threw his line out as soon as he stepped out of the car. And the stinker caught a fish with is very first cast!
We braved the rain and fished a little while.
But some of ended up inside to wait it out.
The next time I went outside, it was to see a huge, full rainbow!
Then the sun started to come out.
And all activities resumed... including Miles standing in the water, fully clothed, to try and fish.
We did go back inside to eat dinner.
The Dads are pretty good at cooking hot dogs over the fire while Moms keep the plates full.
Then there was a little more play time.
And some boat time!
And that rainbow stayed around, at least parts of it, for a long time!
Owen caught a fish from the dock.
And though sometimes he reels them in all alone, sometimes he need s a little help.
So I should get part of the credit for some of his, right? :)
Next up, the fire was ready for s'mores.
It's hard to drag (my) kids away from fishing, so the adults cook marshmallows.
Owen asked me for a marshmallow and then said, "But don't fire it.". haha.. he prefers them 'raw'.
This night was a going-away-last-fling for the Mleyneks... so the group had a gift for us.
They gave us a membership to the Tulsa Zoo!!
Such a great and thoughtful gift!
Oh, how we'll miss these families and their friendship so much. We treasure the years we've spent with this group, though many seasons and times of life. Goodbyes are so hard. 💔
