Hotel Life: Day 7 - Last Day of School

Bedtimes because a bit later during hotel life, making a bit harder for the boys to wake up in the morning.

Somehow I convinced them to wake up...

For the LAST day of school before summer!

We went to get breakfast and took a couple photos.  It was "Hat & Sunglass day" for spirit week.
(I didn't do a good job of capturing all the themes!)

Miles' hat had a shark fin...

Owen often says, "I miss the boys" as soon as we drop them off.  He did this day, so I told him it was the last time and to wave big!

Owen had a great nap that day, and I ended up putting him in the van still asleep when it was time to head to school for awards.  And he ended up sleeping through most of the awards.

Which was a pretty fun event!  Cooper and Miles were both recognized for different things, including music club, chess club and lego league.  Miles was also recognized for being one of the few 2nd graders to achieve his accelerated reader goals.

All of the 4th graders received a Barnes and Noble gift card.

And then the teachers and principal presented their certificate of completion.

or Diploma. :)

That ended the ceremony and allowed time for a bunch of photos.  Cooper's teacher, Mr Tapling, was great with him this year!  I appreciated his evaluation of Cooper's emotional needs as well as helping him adjust academically.

Cooper's friend, Ethan, scored all sorts of awards, including PERFECT attendance for the entire year!

We all loved Mrs Castleman, but especially Owen.  He loved to chat with her anytime she was on parking lot duty, and always yelled, "Hi, Mrs Castleman!" as soon as he spotted her.   She was an assistant in Cooper's room all year, and saw me in the hall the very first day of school noticing that I was a little an emotional wreck.  She had such kind, comforting words that morning, I wish I could remember them, but I'll never forget that I knew Coop was in good hands.

Cooper was free to leave after awards, which ended about 15 minutes before school was out.  So we walked to Miles room to see if we could collect him too.

They were ready to head to parent pick up anyway, so his teacher said to take him.  As Miles started his goodbyes, he ended up in the middle of the sweetest class group hug.

Miles teacher, Mrs Hassinger, was also amazing.  Teaching 2nd graders has to be challenging and she still seemed to find time to know each student and their needs.  She messaged me on several occasions when Miles was having a hard time emotionally adjusting.  She even sent me photos of bugs he'd caught on the playground! :)  She knew immediately of his love for science and creatures.  And loved that he often chooses to read non-fiction over fiction books. I appreciated the way she loved Miles through this year of so much new.

A couple of Miles' closest little buddies were there to say goodbye too.
Andrew and Paul (and Cole) started the Wimpy Kid Club, since they all loved reading "Diary of a Wimpy Kid Books" so much.

After one more group photo in Miles' classroom, we headed out.

And ran into Principal Turner in the hall, who kindly posed for a photo with the boys. I was able to say my thanks to him (and his staff) for helping our family through such a BIG year of adjustments.  He gave a complement as well, saying, "With boys like yours, it's easy.".

And with that: Our first year of public school was wrapped!  My heart can hardly handle how proud I am of these boys!  They conquered all the fears and anxieties they had, they adjusted and finished so WELL.
