The Horrible Hand and Foot Mouth Disease

::::Disclaimer: If photos of blisters bother you, please don't read this post::::

I mentioned in a previous post that Owen recently had Hand Foot and Mouth Disease.  He had a fever for a few days, then broke out with blisters on his well... hands, feet and mouth :) and his ears.

He was uncomfortable, but his case seemed mild after Miles came home from school the next week with a fever...

And blisters in all the same places!

My first clue was actually when I picked them up from school and he said, "I couldn't even eat lunch because it hurts so bad to swallow.".  Uh.Oh.  I'll spare you the photos of his throat, but yikes!  He had blisters there too.  I got him some pudding so he could have a snack...

And we froze some too.

He ended up missing three days of school that week, with blisters all over him.

They were really itchy and painful and it hurt to move around to much.

He took a lot of epsom salt baths, but did also manage to get all his homework done too.

And it gave us some extra time to work on a fun project he had...

A circle map about himself!

His fever was gone and he would have been allowed back at school by the third day, but the blisters were so bad he couldn't even wear shoes.

Which meant he missed the ice cream party for the kids who participated in the summer reading program.  So I took him for a shake before we picked Cooper up from school.  ðŸ˜Š

Owen really enjoyed having Miles home all day.

Too bad Miles was so uncomfortable the whole time.

He finally healed, but as he did, his skin peeled everywhere he'd had blisters!

But never was this boy so happy to get to go (back) to school!

And much to my relief, it seems we didn't start an epidemic!  We kept away from people the whole time. And teachers at school and nursery workers at church sanitized anything we might have left germs on before we knew we had it.  Whew!
