On the Hunt

Derek just wrapped up turkey season...  without bagging a bird.  Those dumb (smart!!!) turkeys!  He learned a lot and enjoyed the difficulty of both bow hunting them and hunting on public land, both things that make actually getting one a little more difficult.  Even though he hadn't gotten one, he "sacrificed" one of his hunt mornings, and took the boys along!  I made up his usual breakfast burrito the night before, and then made up one for each boy too.

Somehow they all hop right out of bed at 4am when the camo is laid out to put on! Have you even seen little faces more excited to be up before dawn in anticipation of sitting out in the woods?!

They shared a chair next to Daddy in the blind.  And apparently their chair was pretty creaky. :) They had a few conversations with turkeys using calls, but never got one in close enough for Derek to take a shot.

So they wrapped it up a little earlier than Derek usually does and hiked out.
(Quite a while after the boys asked if they were almost done.  Derek does this on purpose, he's conditioning them for the years ahead. Ha)

The boys were excited to come home and show me that Daddy painted their faces.

But by mid-afternoon, that 4am wake up call had caught up with them!

No bird.  But so much fun!
Thank you, Derek, for making time to mentor and spend time with your boys.
My prayer is they grow up to be godly men like you, thanks to your amazing example.
