Go RVing

A few months ago, Derek's boss came into his office and asked if our family would be interested in being featured on a single episode of a show the company was producing.  It would be about a family on an RV vacation... in Florida!  Derek said he'd check with me and get back to him.  It didn't take much discussion to decide we were totally in! :)  As we made plans over the next couple months, there were few details but it evolved as we learned more.  At first we were told we would go to Everglades National Park where we would shoot the show while staying in the RV.  Then we found out we couldn't use the restroom in the RV so that they could later sell it as new.  Next we found out we wouldn't even sleep in the RV, we would actually stay at a hotel and go to the RV to shoot scenes for the show.  The last thing that changed was the location, instead of going to the Everglades, we would now be shooting in the Florida Keys...  ummmm, okay!!!

We were all looking forward to it, and when the day came we had an early wake up call... on the day our clocks "Spring Forward", so it felt like 2am when our alarms went off.  We headed to the airport and the boys enjoyed watching our plane being prepped.

Miles flew when we visited Hawaii, but he had just turned two and doesn't remember it. This was so exciting!

Cooper remembered only a few details about his last flight, so it was all exciting to him too.

We had a great view of the sunrise.

The boys are good travelers...
we also packed a few things to help entertain them.

We were in the Miami airport before lunch!

It's a huge airport so we walked a lot, the boys are good at carrying their own weight.  They were troopers!

Even when it took nearly an hour and half to get our rental car.
Miles made sure his dragons were happy and fed too.

Finally in our rental van, we grabbed lunch after we left the airport and headed down towards the keys.

What a beautiful drive it was!!

We met up with the producer and the crew in Key Largo...

Then caravanned the rest of the way to the RV resort,
Fiesta Key.

Which was a little island all it's own and about half way down the keys.

We checked in and got to work immediately.  The producer, Ginger, helped the boys get microphones on.  They bothered them at first but by the end of the week they forgot they were even wearing them. (Although the crew didn't, I'm sure, hearing every word they said!!!)

We got in the truck that pulled the RV and got some shots of us pulling it around.
That's a camera mounted behind the boys.

The last shot of the night was us getting out of the truck and walking around to enjoy the sunset at the water front RV site.  It was gorgeous!!

The RV had a slide out that extended the kitchen and a pop out bed on each end.  It had also just come off the factory line three days earlier!  It was nice.

But because we didn't actually get to stay in the RV, we headed to the other side of the grounds where we found our lodging, a park model 'cottage'.

It was a nice little cabin with a full kitchen...

Master Bedroom...

And a cute little loft where the boys slept.

It was so cute and a fun place to spend a few days.

Not to mention it was right on the water!

From this side of the park, we saw the sunrise every morning.

Once settled, we went to dinner with the crew.
They boys ate fried conch for the first time and loved it! Miles dipped his in ketchup, of course! By the end of the week, Ginger had purchased him his very own bottle of ketchup to keep in the cottage. :)

Then back to bed in their little loft!
Time to rest up for the fun week ahead!
