Post Op

Miles did have surgery yesterday!

He was a trooper and was very brave with all the preparations.

Which took longer than expected.  To help the boredom a nurse gave him a blown up glove and a marker to draw on it with.

Cooper got one too.

Then it was time to go.  The nurse asked Miles if he wanted her to carry him or if he'd like to ride in a wheelchair.  He chose the wheelchair so Daddy helped him get in.

And made sure he had his blanky.

Then off he went!
(I might have shed a tear.)

He told me later that they took him back and he said 'Hi' to the doctor.  Then they laid him on a table and he told them he wanted to sit up and they let him.  Then they put a 'thing like Cooper's medicine only yellow" over his mouth to breath. (Cooper has an inhaler from when he had croup.) And then while he was breathing it, the 'guy over there started singing'.  I'd really like to know if anyone was really singing! ...or if he just has Papa's genes.  My Dad sang himself to sleep with Johnny Cash songs while going under anesthesia.   Once Miles had gone into surgery, Derek took Cooper over to Grandma Pam's while I waited.  It didn't take long for the doctor to come tell me it all went well and that Miles' tonsils and adenoids were both very large.  Which means he's confident it will help his sleep apnea.  Derek got back right as they brought Miles to me, which was good since had a little trouble coming out of the anesthesia and was pretty upset, but once he was all the way awake they gave him something else to calm him down a little.  So he had a short little post op med induced nap.

The next time he woke up, he was much better.
He wanted to play a game on Daddy's phone.

One of the first things he said was that he was thirsty.

After that, it wasn't long before we got to leave.

The surgery center is just around the corner from home, so it was a short ride.

We got Miles settled in at home with ice chips, water, a movie and his toy dragon.

...and he soon had his first post op popsicle.

It was a little bit of a rough evening and night, he's pretty uncomfortable when the painkillers wear off and it's not time for more.  But we did get some sleep, then Miles had a gatorade popsicle for breakfast.

And some jello for lunch.

Mostly he's just done a lot of laying around.  It hurts to swallow and there is a lot of pain in his ears.

We set up a 'sick bay' in the basement so he can just stay there and watch movies.  I think he's watched "Turbo" at least four times already.   He's on the air mattress so it works for me to sleep with him at night.

He also won't take off the socks the hospital gave him.

Right now he's sleeping peacefully... Turbo in hand.
