Polar Vortex

I'm sure that a lot of you experienced the recent polar vortex too... but we had some seriously cold weather here!  It's hard to see, but the 'feels like' temp was -34º when I looked at 9am and it didn't warm up much at all that day.  Brrrrr.

It made having venison stew and home made rolls even more delicious.

And we found ways to tolerate the cold..curled up and home!

The boys and I did venture out for just a few minutes, but I really bundled them up.  This is when Miles said, "I look like the clumsy ninja!".

Ha.  The Clumsy Ninja is a game he plays on my phone...
And I do see the resemblance!

We had two reasons for going outside.
One was that Cooper was taking a letter to the mailbox.
(Derek's car is in the picture because he took the Durango because his car wouldn't start.
...it was too cold!)

The other was that we wanted to see if we could blow bubbles that would freeze.

But, I'm pretty sure it was too cold!  This is the only one we caught.

And it sure makes a mess to bundle up, even if you're only outside for 90 seconds.

A little later I had another idea and blew a bubble and just held it out the back door.

It froze!  But the wind blew on it and it broke apart.

So these are the only shot I could get was after the broke. Oh well.

All the local schools called of school because of the cold temperatures.  That reason really doesn't work for us...  So we were at it.  While coloring this pig, Cooper said, "Are some pigs boys? But they're pink! That's so weird!".  Ha.

Meanwhile, Miles was making a lion.
