Canopy Tour Zip Line

And now, a little trip back to the zip line tour we did while in Southern Illinois.  They could only take groups of eight at a time so we were split into two groups.  The Dads and teenagers went in the first group and were first to get all geared up.

While the rest of us, mostly the married couples, waited for the next tour in 30 minutes.

We did a little training line and then were ready for the real thing.  It was actually a little more technical than I had expected.  We wore gloves that had a leather pad on one hand used to brake for slowing down coming up to the platform.  And there were a couple times they warned us smaller people that we should tuck our knees up to assure we'd make it all the way across.  I might be the most paranoid in the group, but it made me a little nervous.  Once I got over my nerves though, it was a blast!

It was a series of eight zips, so there was time to hang out and wait for the rest of the group in between. We were attached to a cable at all times.

Even doing this activity on one of the hottest days of the year, we had so much fun.

It helped that we were with a fun group of family who are friends.  We had lots of laughs along the way.

And only minor injuries.  Derek was using his Go Pro camera attached to his wrist and at some point on the last zip must have rested his arm along the cable...it took the skin right off!  He also got a huge blister on this hand from trying to correct himself to come into the platform.  It was quite the site!

But all in the name of some fun footage.  :)   Here is a little "highlight reel" Derek put together.  Enjoy!
