Independence Day in Iowa 2017 - Cookout (Engagement Party)

After the parade wrapped up and the boys finished their snow cones, we headed out to Uncle Darrin (Dales' brother) and Aunt Kelly's house.  They had invited us out for a cookout weeks before, but what we didn't know is that it was actually an engagement party!

We all got comfortable, mostly in the shade...

While Uncle Darrin grilled hamburgers and hot dogs.

There were also lots of yard games to occupy everyone while waiting.  They had two games of 'bags' or 'corn hole' set up.

And a game of tossing washers.

And bubbles.

And the old school game, climbing trees. :)

They had a great spread of food!  And this cute table for the engagement celebration.

Cupcakes!

Cooper and Miles made friend's with Alex's (Groom to be) nieces and nephews over lunch.

Owen got to sit on the ground to eat.

And only once took off running as fast as he could just for fun.  Good thing Daddy is fast.

Owen was a willing partner to anyone who was playing bags.

So when Derek and I played a round, we let him help out.

His job was to carry all the yellow bags over to me.

He was doing great at his task.

But got a little tripped up.

He picked them up and made it over to me, but shortly after he totally crashed.  Right on the lawn.

He slept there for nearly two hours!

The party went on around him, and was wrapped up, cleaned up and put away as storm clouds rolled in, all while he slept.

Congratulations to Alex and Miranda!
