When we ordered our school curriculum for kindergarten, we ordered a butterfly garden. It was too cold to order caterpillars to have them the week we studied butterfly, so once it warmed up enough for them to be mailed, school was almost done.
We still really enjoyed the process! The cup of caterpillars arrived in the mail.
We got six of them.
(not my photo, I stole it off the internet)
Then we watched them...
Very closely...
Until they were all chrysalides.
(again, not my photo)
Then we followed the instructions and moved the paper disc from the cup lid into our butterfly garden... and after 7-10 days we had a butterfly!
We lost one chrysalis and one as it started to emerge.
But we had four butterflies when it was time to release them!
We opened up the lid.
And watched them go!
The boys each touched one.
Which was very exciting!
And waved goodbye.
