So... There was a weekend in the middle of March that Derek went on a hunt with his show, Bowhunter. He ran a camera and also got to do a little hog hunting while in Southern California.
So I spent Thursday through Monday hanging with just these two...
Derek was on a fairly remote ranch but kept us updated when he could.
...like about the wild game he was eating.
We were eating pretty good ourselves.
And with Daddy away, I convinced the boys to watch "Beauty and the Beast" with me. Miles made daddy proud though: When Beast was turned back into a prince and is about to kiss Belle, Miles covered his eyes and said, "I can't watch". :)
The next evening we cheered on the Kansas Jayhawks.
And the next day was the AWANA Grand Prix.
That was actually when the trouble started... car trouble. The Durango overheated on the way to the race. We called a friend who came and got us to the race while her husband towed our car to the shop. After the Grand Prix another friend took us back to our house to get the keys to the other car and then to get it from the airport where Derek had left it. That's the short version of our frustrating day. Thankful for such great friends to help us out!
Derek was having a few frustrations of his own. No one made a kill on their trip and he couldn't even use the fly rod he'd taken along, since Lake San Antonio was all dried up from the California drought!
We faced more frustrations too. Both boys ended up really sick so we made a trip to the Urgent Care instead of church on Sunday morning. They got tested for strep and both tests came back positive!
After we picked up prescriptions and got settled in at home, a sweet friend brought some Dunkin' Donuts coffee to me "on their way home" from church to cheer me up! It did help and I appreciated the gesture very much. I also appreciated the same friends dropping our car back off at the airport for us the next evening so that I didn't have to go pick Derek up late...with two boys...one scheduled for an early morning surgery.
Somehow we survived our weekend without Daddy. He's already talking about going on another hunt for the show. I told him to talk to me about a little later when the sting of this one has worn off!
